For those of you who machine knit, this is the only machine knit slipper I could find. I made about 40 pairs of them 2 christmases ago. EVERYONE got slippers for christmas. LOL I got so good, I could whip them out in an hour. I have since sold this machine, but when finances permit, I will look for another one.

This is the start of a cotton shawl I started a couple of months ago. I work on it when I have no project that I need to finish or just for a change of pace. The pattern is an 8 stitch plus 1 repeat, so it's very easy for me to remember and not have to refer to a pattern sheet to figure out where I'm at. The Yarn is Bernat mercerized cotton yarn. Very soft and shiny. It came in a box of stuff that came with one of my knitting machines. It's probably discontinued, but I have lots of it, so no worries about running out in the middle and then having to re knit it into something smaller. I may even have enough left over to make a simple lace shell for my skinny sister with the big boobs. LOL

Here's my current project. It's a pair of socks for my aunt. They're made of magic stripe from Lion Brand. I think the yarn is discontinued, but it was gifted to me. I'm gonna make a pair of gloves with the left over. Maybe a pair of fingerless, depending on how much yarn is left over. I started them yesterday and will be finished with them tomorrow. 75% superwash wool and 25% nylon.

Some of you may remember the Alpaca I was knitting a mobius shawl with. Well this is what was left of the alpaca yarn. I made my mom a pair of gloves. I used an old red cross pattern from the 30's. It's fun to work with those old patterns. They only took me a week to make. They are soooo soft.

I have another friend who lives in Liberty, Texas. He requested replacement slipper socks as the ones I made him last year, he has worn holes in them. LOL The first ones I made on the knitting machine, but I made these on needles.

My Mom is a HUGE Nancy Grace fan. If you watch her, you know that she just had twins. I made these for my mom to send to her. They are in LSU colors, purple and gold, but switched, so they're alike, but easy to tell apart. I really can't stand to watch her, she makes me mad, but I love my mother and try to fill her requests asap. LOL

This was my try at a machine knit pattern I converted to hand knit. The cuff is a k2p2 rib and the foot part is doubled, by doubled, I mean that the inside is one slipper and the outside is another, this way they're extra warm and cushy on cold floors, but knit in one piece and stitched together at the end. I made the cuff a little large, but they are comfy and not tight around the ankle, so it would be great for diabetics and others who don't want a tight cuff around their leg, but want to keep their feet warm. These went to my friend with the girls bookmarks

this is an iPod headband I made for the friend who wanted the bookmarks. I made this for her for a christmas present. It was supposed to be an armband, but I got kind of carried away with the length and it came out as a headband. LOL

These are some bookmarks I made for a friend's, daughters. She found the pattern and couldn't figure it out. The bookmarks are knitted in the round, but on 2 needles in such a way that one row is knit1, slip the next stitch with the yarn on the purl side then knit and slip purlwise. etc. It makes a double fabric that's knitted in the round with only 2 needles. Kind of a cool technique. I will supply the pattern if anyone wants it.
just email me. duhonallen@yahoo.com
I'm not sure what's happening with the titles of my posts, but after I type them, they change to a different language font. Like the one with the picture of my mom. I will write to the blogspot people and see if they can give me a clue as to what's causing this.

Alpaca, YUMMM!!!

Still working on this, but had to share it with you guys. This yarn is so soft and luxurious, I am spoiled for anything else. It has a great hand and drape once knitted. I can't wait to finish it off.

New Projects finished.

The first one is a dishcloth with the John Deere logo. I made it from a chart that I wrote a while back for a DBJ blanket I made for a friend. The second is a Table cloth for a cousin. She wanted something to hang off her oval table and I made this with peaches and cream cotton with a size I crochet hook.

My first pair of socks.

I got this yarn in a box that was gifted to me. I made my mom a pair of bed socks with it. No idea what the fiber content is, there was no label on the yarn.

This is a copy of the bag that I am making for a class I am teaching.

I started a craft group for the Lake Charles area and several of the people who joined asked about lessons in knitting. Sooooo.... I made up a pattern in hand knitting and posted it to the craft files of my group. Here's the picture

Sleeves for nephews sweater.

I've gotten really tired of knitting these sleeves, so, I've decided to knit them on the knitting machine. LOL I just got tired of these size 4 needles. I'll get the machine out tomorrow and start on them. I'll let you know how it goes.

Close up of stitch detail

I am posting a close up of the stitch detail on this sweater, so that you can see what the yarn looks like

Parts of nephew's sweater

I've been working on this sweater for 2 weeks and had to post some pictures. Let me know what you think, I love the light and open feel of the fabric. I am using US 4 needles to make this sweater.

Working on my nephew's sweater

I've got the front and back done. Yeee Haah! I've started on the sleeves and have about a third of one done. I might have this thing finished by the end of the week.
A friend of mine went to Atlanta over the weekend to visit some old friends of hers that were celebrating 17 years together. They live in a suburb of Atlanta, very ritzy. She was telling me about their new house, 5000 square feet, and how much they had put down on it. $125,000. I thought that they had a freestanding mansion, NOOOOOOO, they have a condo. I can see those kind of prices in NY or LA, but Georgia? Anyway, she was telling me that she was going to Atlanta and I mentioned that it was Gay Pride weekend. She was so excited, Anyway, she went to the parade and walked blisters on her feet, but had a great time. Did I mention that her friend was celebrating 17 years with her girlfriend? Well she was, it is so nice to see any couple stay together that long.
Another friend in Houston, had tickets to go to a concert for Pride weekend. It was Margaret Cho, Cindy Lauper, Deborah Harry and Erasure. When he got there they made an announcement that they had persuaded Rosie O'Donnell to attend and perform also. Well, you know how it is, she quit another show and she wouldn't take the price is right, because they wouldn't let her do the show in NY. Poor thing, she said she doesn't need the money and wants to be able to spend time with her kids and girlfriend.
I sat home all weekend and knitted. LOL

Haven't been on in a while.

Sorry I haven't been here in a while. I've been working on a sweater for my nephew. He just turned 17. I'm making it out of a slub yarn in a dusty green color. It's a ribbed sweater, so it will fit. The yarn is light, so he will be able to wear it. He's kind of like me, hot all of the time, so he needs something light that he can wear when the weather gets cooler (30 degrees is cool down here). LOL
I've just about got the back made. I kind of wish I had started this on my 930, but I'm making it with US 4 knitting needles. The smallest size I've ever made a sweater on. I've almost given up on it a few times, but told myself that I could get one sweater made with these tiny needles.
I'll post pictures as I have the pieces made.

Just Finished Grandma's Sweater.

I just finished with my grandma's sweater. The only thing left to do is sew some buttons on it. She's going to pick some up when she gets into town. I'll repost a picture of her in it when we get the buttons on.

This is a throw I made for my Aunt. It is crocheted from Lion Brand's Homespun. I made it in a couple of days. It's just 2 color squares 2/3 1/3 and then hand sewn together.

Hi,
Trying out posting pics.
Allen

Working on a Sweater.

I've been working on a sweater for my Grandmother. It's a pattern I found on the internet of a wrap sweater. Instead of tying like most wrap sweaters it has buttons on the left hand side to close it with.
I've also been working on projects for school. I'm attending the Arti Institute Online studying Digital Design. It's lots of fun, but plenty of work too. I'm glad that I only have 2 classes this semester.
Will post pictures of the sweater as soon as I figure out how to do it. LOL

Welcome to My Man Knitter blog page.

In the days and months to come I will be sharing pictures of my hand knitting, crocheting and machine knitting. I am a Hurricane Rita Survivor and am currently living in a FEMA camper in Lake Charles. I am originally from Cameron, Louisiana. I have been crocheting since I was 6 and hand knitting since I was 12. I started machine knitting about 6 years ago and fell in love with the machines if not the fabric, LOL I do love gadgets. Every one is welcome to comment, but I will moderate the posts. I am currently on interferon and nupagen which have left me unable to work for at least the next year. I have plenty of time to knit though. I also decided that since I am sitting at home I would attend classes part time at the Art Institute Online. I look forward to meeting all of my knitting pals from the yahoo groups on here and hope that you enyjoy my thoughts.
